The start of the new life for
the Silver Isle. It was quite a job to get the Amtrak stripping
off. Also, Amtrak painted the vestibule doors and During removal of all the Amtrak lettering from the sign board and found the outline of the original lettering. The Silver Isle is lettered as it was for the CB&Q. |

Former
Amtrak Sleeper, the Silver Isle, was used at a training location
in Huntington, MA. ( CSX Boston Line ). For over an hour, emergency responders performed search and rescue drills. This was the first trip for the Silver Isle in its Safety Train program. Also, it was the first stop for Safety Train II. There are 6 stops in three states planned for the fall program. Safety Train I has just departed the Georgia Fire Academy. |

Westwood MA Joseph V. MacDonald served on the Amtrak Board of Directors as an appointee of Senator Aiken of Vermont. As an astute statistician his attention was soon attracted to inequities in the operating costs allocated to the "Montrealer" south of Springfield as compared to the segment to the north. The appointment to the Amttrak board reads: "By virtue of the authority vested
in me as President of the United States under the provisions
of the Rail Passenger Service Act of 1970, as amended, I have
nominated, and, by and with the advice The White House [signed] Richard Nixon |
